What is NAMTA Northeast Area Music Teachers Association (NAMTA), founded in 1973, is one of several local chapters of IMTA and MTNA. Members of NAMTA are encouraged to belong to IMTA. They may participate in state sponsored auditions, festivals, and the certification program. Activities sponsored by the local group include the Student Achievement Clinic, Library, Workshops, Scholarships, an efforts to educate ourselves and the public to demand good music teachers and bring the status of the private teacher up among professionals. NAMTA meets the second Friday of each month from September through May except for December. Meetings are held at the Hearst Center for the Arts, 304 W. Seerly Blvd, Cedar Falls. Iowa Music Teachers Association (IMTA) is an organization of people dedicated to the promotion of good music for students, teachers, and the listening public. IMTA is an affiliate of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). From the local through the National level, there is a very active student audition program. Besides sponsoring recitals, piano festivals, composition contests, and other special events, its yearly activities are climaxes in the Spring by an annual Workshop Convention for teachers and students. Certification establishes standards of excellence for the music teaching profession. Certification is available at the state and national level and demonstrates a commitment to high professional standards to students and colleagues. There are several options for ways to receive certification including by degree, by testing options, or by a student's merit in auditions. |
